Today is one of those days where people's actions fill me with anger. One particular person, whose situation I am not going to discuss on this blog made a choice that is completely unfair, unjust and malicious. It fills me with a hot burning rage.
But then I think-- does me being bitter, angry and lashing out hurt this person. Of course it doesn't, it only hurts me. I know this sounds cliché, but it really truly only brings me down. It also gives that person power, because it means their actions have succeeded in some way.
So if today you are in an angry, bitter or hurt place. Know this, you can decide what your reaction is going to be. Let go of the anger, not necessarily the actions you have to do to rectify the situation...just the anger.
So I'm mediating on this verse while I walk through this situation:
Ephesians 4:31-32 - Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
I'm deciding to not be angry (as best as I can), not speak negative or malice words against that person (because it would bring me to their level)... I'm taking in this love that Christ has given to me, and hopefully showing those around me a glimpse of it.
Here's a thought from Charles Swindoll.
ReplyDeleteThe longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes
Oh Ian, this is so what I needed to hear today! SO wonderful! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHeidi, whatever is on your heart today I pray that God gives you peace and allows you to brush it off!:) You have grown into such a beautiful woman, inside and out so I am sure whatever malice words where said were completely inaccurate.
