13 Month Update: Nathan Lucas

Nathan Lucas: 13 Month Update (03.04.17)

Weight: Still at the 20lb mark, I'm guessing it will plateau for a bit until he starts walking.
Length: 28 inches ish.
Head Circumference: This measurement, and his weight/length have always remained around the 45-50 percentile range at his appointments.

Milestones

-Had the stomach flu for the first time, does this count as a milestone haha? It was bad, at one point he was vomiting every 15 minutes, poor baby. We ended up having to take him into emergency (due to the frequency, and how much bile he was puking). They gave him some zofran, which luckily did the trick, and he was pretty much back to normal within 24 hours. Just in time for me to get it, then Kyle the next day. ENOUGH PUKE!!
-Learned how to "brush off his crumbs", Auntie Katelyn taught him and it is the cutest thing.
-Celebrating our 2nd Easter this year... pictures to come on how he does with the Easter Bunny! He did great with Santa, so we will see. **
-Took his first steps (15.04.17). We bribed him with one of his new crayons, and he took six steps. He walks along furniture, and along the wall and is definitely standing a lot more often. I can't wait to see him walk confidently more often!

Loves

- To clap his hands. He grasps his fingers together as he does so, and it's the cutest thing.
- Laughs all the time while in his carseat. Nothing will be going on, just driving along and he just starts cackling up- it cracks Kyle and I right up.
-Still loves to nurse, will this kid ever wean haha. Mostly we are down to just night-time, sometimes during the day on weekends. I'm glad I can still provide easy comfort, though it's tiring.
- Blackberries, strawberries, corn, black beans, very much a "snacky" eater.
- To drive his cars all over the house, and play in his paw patrol ball pit.

Dislikes

- The Easter Bunny, see photo below. **verdict, not a fan. He threw a fit, and was TERRIFIED. We ended up taking an impromptu family photo because Kyle had to hold him.
- Being still for anything, getting dressed, being held, this boy is a mover.
- Being hungry... or should I say hangry like his mum. Nine times out of ten, if he is cranky- it usually means he is hungry. Poor guy, that won't change anytime soon if you are anything like mummy.

Don't be deceived by that little smile, it lasted for only a few moments and if the bunny touched him, he freaked.

13 months, and our world.

Nathan turns ONE

Twelve Month Update: Nathan Lucas

Nathan Lucas: 12 Month Update (03.03.17)

Weight: 20lbs 3oz
Length: 28 inches
Head Circumference: This measurement, and his weight/length have always remained around the 45-50 percentile range at his appointments.

Milestones

-Had his first haircut (shortly after his first birthday). It's pretty dorky and of course I videotaped the whole thing *first child syndrome*. I think Kyle will take him next time to his regular place to see if they can do a better job.
-Back to almost all non dairy. He was having some serious crying spells at night, so we decided to eliminate the dairy again to see if that helped. He loves almond milk, and we are going to talk to the pediatrician at his check up to see what else can be done.
-Talks non stop: Mommy, daddy, whee, bye bye, yummy, puppy, and his made up words haha.
-Gets himself to a complete stand without pulling up on anything, though still hasn't taken full "steps" yet. He is JUST on the brink of walking
-Started at his first dayhome, as I've gone back to work. It's going REALLY well, and I couldn't be happier with the person who is taking care of him.

Loves

-Playing with Onyx. He hands her ball to her, and loves watching her run around. It's the cutest.
-Watching out the windows, and all the space he has at our new house. Including the stairs! (Baby gates went up asap).
-Playing more interactively with toys (driving cards, doing puzzles etc).

Dislikes

All the same dislikes as the previous month haha. He's a pretty determined little boy, so if he wants to go somewhere you better not try and hold him back or he'll let you know he has had enough. Doesn't like the food you thought he'd love, just throws his entire lunch to the dog... awesome.

Still not a great sleeper, I have to remind myself "he's only one, and this won't last forever" though some nights it sure feels like it.

Getting ready for his cake! Thanks, Aunty Leeann for organizing his cake- it was perfect!

Sugar Coma. Haha, not quite sure what to do with his "cake smash".

The "unofficial" zebra photo, he was having none of it.

Eleven Month Update: Nathan Lucas

Eleven Month Update: Nathan Lucas

Nathan Lucas: 11 Month Update (03.02.17)

Weight: ?? Unknown, we haven't had a doctor appointment recently.
Length: Same, unknown... though he's growing out of clothes like crazy!
Head Circumference: This measurement, and his weight/length have always remained around the 45-50 percentile range at his appointments.

Milestones

-One new tooth, which brings the total to seven teeth! The last one didn't seem to bother him, so I'm hoping that until molars come in we are in the clear for awhile.
-Getting much better at drinking out of a straw cup without spitting milk/water everywhere.
-Regularly says "daddy", "mommy", "mama", "dada", and a bunch of other "words" that we haven't quite made out yet ;)
-Standing unassisted for fairly long periods of time, though he drops back down to crawling instead of taking steps.

Loves

-Talking all the time, and his favourite word is "daddy".
-Bathtime, now that we've moved into our new house- he LOVES his big bathtub. So many fun bath toys, and of course trying to drink the water out of his toy cups.
-Dogs, of any kind. It's fun teaching him to be gentle- and he loves kisses straight on the mouth!

Dislikes

-Sleeping. Need I say more. He just has way too much on the go, and it takes SO long to wind him down for bedtime.
-Getting dressed or undressed.
-"insert random food item that he previously loved". His tastes change SO much from day to day, that it's a constant guessing game of what we can get him to eat.

Ten Month Update: Nathan Lucas

Nathan Lucas: 10 Month Update (03.01.17)

Weight: 20lbs
Length: 26/27 inches
Head Circumference: This measurement, and his weight/length have always remained around the 45-50 percentile range at his appointments.

*His measurements are a guess this month, but he "feels" about the same weight to me.

Milestones

-Two new teeth, bringing that to a grand total of SIX. Four tops, two bottom. The last two on top have really affected nursing, his latch isn't great (very shallow) which means it hurts me and he likes to bite. I'm happy that we've done so well with breastfeeding up until this point.
-Tried homo milk for the first time, he likes it- but only cold from the fridge, he spits it out if you warm it up for him.
-Drinks out of a straw cup (really well), and out of a sippy cup quite well. He is very "lazy" and doesn't hold his cup often by himself, and likes someone else to hold it for him.
-Talking like crazy. It seems this month his "words" and sounds have exploded. He calls the dog "Bah goht" whatever that means, and loves to shriek at an ear piercing volume.
-Trying to stand unassisted, hasn't happened yet but he is getting close.

Loves

-Shrieking, and copying whatever sound mum and dad are making. He is definitely a little parrot.
-Jumping in his crib (instead of sleeping, of course).
-Silly noises of all kinds, and being tickled.

Dislikes

-Does not like being told "no", he puts his face down on the carpet and shrieks.
-Throws himself back in your arms if he doesn't want to be held.
-Not a big fan of "cuddling" or rocking (unless I'm nursing him). He's constantly on the go and wants to be checking things out for himself.

Waving "Bye Bye"

Nine Month Update: Nathan Lucas

Nathan Lucas: 9 Month Update (03.12.16)

Weight: 20lbs
Length: 26/27 inches
Head Circumference: This measurement, and his weight/length have always remained around the 45-50 percentile range at his appointments.

Milestones

-Four teeth! Two bottoms and two tops. They are sharp, and he loves to bite everything!
-Waved "bye bye" for the first time (NYE) at my parents house. It's SO cute and now he does it all the time/on command and loves all the attention he gets from it.
-Sleep is getting better, we've been working with the sleep consultant (laugh if you want, but she did give us some great advice). Nathan is learning to put himself to sleep, without any "crutches" (rocking, nursing, singing etc).
-Met Santa for the first time, and he did AMAZING. He was by far the cutest baby in line (no bias, obviously). Seriously though, the pictures are to die for.

Loves

-Standing, at just about anything. He pulls himself up in the crib all the time and on to any piece of furniture he can manage.
-Swimming, he could be in the pool for hours. Our little water baby.

Dislikes

-Spoon feeding, again Mr. Independent has to do everything himself. He's a good little eater, and usually will try everything we give to him.
-Sometimes "getting into" his carseat. He's fine once he's buckled in- it's just the sitting down and getting strapped in part he isn't a fan of. I always have to have a new object on hand to distract him.

Eight Month Update: Nathan Lucas

Nathan Lucas: 8 Month Update (03.11.16)

Weight: 20 lbs
Length: 26 inches
Head Circumference: This measurement, and his weight/length have always remained around the 45-50 percentile range at his appointments.

Milestones

-Went to his first Wedding, in beautiful Canmore, AB. Our good friends Morgan and Malcolm tied the knot, and it was a gorgeous and fun day- any excuse to get me to the mountains.
-Nathan went to his first NHL Game!
-Went to his first "Birthday Party" (Kingston) who is a few months older than Nathan. He loves our playdates there, and it is hysterical to watch the two boys together.

Loves

-Loves to crawl around, and is fully on his knees now. He sometimes army crawls still when lazy, but he's figured out how much faster he is up on all fours.
-Very curious nature, and is interested in everything going on around him. He likes to "see" what is going on, and doesn't like being left out.

Dislikes

-Sleeping is still very much a challenge. Sleep "training" is ongoing, but there have been some rough nights. He is learning, and doing quite well but not nursing to sleep is a challenge for him.
-Nathan is definitely becoming more "in routine" and if he doesn't get enough sleep during the day- night time becomes a real challenge. He is still fairly easygoing but is not happy when he's overtired and then has to go to sleep.

Oh sleep, sleep, sleep... how it consumes the whole "dislike" section. I can't wait until Nathan is a teenager and wants to sleep in!! BAHAHA.

First NHL Hockey Game: Rogers Place; Oilers vs: Leafs
The "group" of us at Morgan and Malcolm's wedding.

Seven Month Update: Nathan Lucas

Nathan Lucas: 7 Month Update (03.10.16)

Weight: ?? I'm guessing around the 18lb mark.
Length: 26 inches
Head Circumference: This measurement, and his weight/length have always remained around the 45-50 percentile range at his appointments.

Milestones

-Beginning to pull himself up on to objects, and stand with the aid of furniture. He loves to stand and "walk" with our hands helping him. He also has begun crawling up on to things, such as his bouncer chair.
-Loves to eat almost anything. We still give him cereals and purees, but he loves more solid foods such as: cheerios, banana, strawberries, pancakes, and even had lasagna!
-Got his second tooth (bottom left), the top ones look like they will come through soon.
- First Halloween, we dressed him up as a giraffe!

Loves

-Standing, mostly at his bouncer chair and pulling the toys.
-Crawling/getting into things he shouldn't such as: cords, dog food, Onyx's crate (he is obsessed with), her water dish... I'm sure you see the pattern.
-Taking showers with daddy. He has pretty much outgrown his baby bath tub, and loves having showers now!

Dislikes

-Still bedtime, haha. It's getting better as the teething is settling down... but it's still a struggle for him to settle himself. Usually once he is down, we will get one 6 hour stretch, and then another 3-4 hour stretch. I'm hoping this will lengthen, and he will get a bit more sleep at night, though I can't complain as he is very happy during the day and naps quite well usually.
-Being told "no", though I'm sure he doesn't understand the word- he isn't a fan of being moved away from something he'd like to play with (such as the garbage can, or the bone Onyx is chewing).
