V-Day

February 14th, a Tuesday, my brother's 11th birthday, Valentine's Day. I have never been a big V-Day girl, for the following reasons:

1) I am fussy about chocolate, 90% of the candy the stores sell around this holiday is gross. Please just get me a starbucks card instead.

2) I like romance, surprises and sweet dates all year round. Not just on one day. I get that it's nice to have a day dedicated to the person you love, but seriously why can't that be every day.

3) It's over-rated. It has been when I'm single, and it still is while I'm engaged. Why do girls find the need to whine about the fact that this is "singles awareness day"- when I was single, I would go out with girlfriends for dinner and then we would rent a movie; or we would hang out with a group of people (guys included) and do a normal activity. Since then, being in a relationship/engaged has not drastically changed my viewpoint. Last year for V-Day, Kyle and I went and made a build-a-bear because I wanted something to take back to school when I missed him. This year, he is OBSESSED (I emphasize for a reason) with coffee/a good london fog, so I got him a steamer for his milk and he got me...something, though I have to wait to find out!

*I would like to interrupt this post to state the fact that I SO appreciate having a man in my life who is just as much of a coffee/tea snob as I and cares about having a good cup of joe.

Anyhow, I wish you all the best in whatever your V-Day plans may be. Whether with the love of your life, or with a group of friends, whether by yourself watching all your favourite movies (Harry Potter marathon anyone?)... love on, live on, and go buy yourself a good cup of coffee today- just because you can.

Love, Heidi

  1. I agree! When I was single I just saw Valentine's Day as a day on which to eat chocolate. I didn't find that it made me feel more single than any other day. And Bryan and I never really do too much to celebrate. He tried buying me flowers for our first Valentine's Day but I killed them so he's never bothered with that again. This year he bought me a movie and I bought him a zombie video game. We love each other every day, and Valentine's is no more special than any other day of the year.

  2. I so agree Becca! I do love flowers, although I like them sporadically on a random day! I love your last sentence, "we love each other every day, and Valentine's is no more special than any other day of the year" So true.
